Position Description

The Superintendent will be under the supervision of a Project Manager or Operations Manager. He/she will be expected to manage 1-5 small crews on a single project and or manages up to three concurrent projects in the performance of skilled and manual tasks in the repair and protection of structures and related work. This position requires extensive knowledge in the general construction, concrete, structural steel and/or concrete repair work and the supervision of people.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Ten (10)+ years of field experience and 5+ years management experience or extensive experience working in general construction, concrete, structural steel and /or concrete repair environment. Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and wear a respirator when required on specified jobsites. Good written and verbal communication skills. The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Knowledge of: materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of commercial, public, or industrial structures; business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources; arithmetic and its applications; principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction; machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Leadership

  • Provides leadership and supervision for 2-50 employees. Will manage a single crew or multiple crews on several jobsites simultaneously. Assigns crew to the jobsite and sets work shift schedule. Maintains crew daily field reports and provides written and verbal warning when crew member down time is incurred. Must be hands-on mentor and coach. Team oriented and solution oriented, approachable, and a good listener. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to effectively communicate expectations, holds team members accountable, and provides feedback on performance. Proactive, professional, positive attitude, as well as diligent and detail oriented. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task. Facilitate annual review process for all direct reports. Suggest or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and hires. Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Time Management – Managing one’s own time and the time of others. Coordination – Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions. Instructing – Teaching others how to do something. Judgment and decision making – Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Safety

  • Assures Safety equipment is worn by all employees, subcontractors and job site visitors (hard hat, eye protection, ear protection, respiratory protection, etc.) required by the safety specifications and the jobsite conditions. Performs all work in compliance with the Company Safety Policies. Assures job site is maintained in a safe manner (barricade protection of open holes, job site signage, chemical and fuel labeling, tie down of equipment, etc.). Conducts weekly safety “Tool Box” meetings and Task Hazard Analysis. Reports timely, accurately and in full detail all accidents to the operations office.
  • Must exhibit a Safety attitude in all situations. Must be extremely safety conscious, setting an example for others by demonstrating that Safety is held in the highest regard. Will be expected to communicate expectations regarding our safety culture and hold employees accountable to safety standards/requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Manual Dexterity – The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness – The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holing you arm and hand in one position.
  • Multilimb Coordination – The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
  • Static Strength – The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50lbs.
  • Performing General Physical Activities – Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving you whole body, such as climbing ladders/scaffolding, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crawling, and handling of materials. Reaching Above Shoulders. Reaching Below Knees.
  • Handling and Moving Objects – Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment – Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, etc.
  • Ability to handle and utilize various tools and equipment.
  • Crawling into tight and confined spaces

Special Requirements

  • Must be willing to work from project site up to 100% of the time and report to weekly and other periodic meetings being held at the Corporate Office.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and agree to MVR check in order to operate company vehicles or drive for business purposes.
  • Willing to work 50-55 hours per week, and also, must be flexible with work hours. Willing to work whenever/wherever needed to fulfill responsibilities to help meet and exceed the company goals, including night shift, out of town work, bad weather conditions, etc.
  • Must be willing to work at heights in excess of 6 stories off the ground.

Position Requirements

Interested candidates for this position should have the following attributes:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience/Qualifications: Experience working on large concrete structures in the commercial, public, or industrial markets – including parking structures, bridges, tanks, airports, plaza decks, WWTP’s, refineries, heavy highway, and power/utility. Experience with Self-Performing Contractor (concrete, masonry, steel, waterproofing, mechanical or industrial), General Contractor, or Specialty Contractor. Previous experience with a well-structured Safety Program.
  • Technical Skills: Above average computer skills using MS Office.
