This role reports to Group Information Systems (IS) Manager. As an IT Director, Portfolio Services, you will be responsible for staff functions typically associated with an Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and delivery of cross-functional IS services, including Communications, Portfolio Management, Vendor Management, Strategic Program Management, Workforce and Financial Management. You will have accountability to design and build standardized processes and tools and leading the team responsible for delivering these services. Throughout the transformation, you will drive processes and reporting that ensure delivery of high quality, secure and compliant services and solutions. As a leader in the Americas IS organization, you will have the opportunity to work in a high-paced, international environment, solve complex problems, lead our process and solution capability development for Portfolio Services and grow together with the rapidly developing business.

Your responsibilities

  • General: Develop, implement and institutionalize standardized processes and tools that will be used within Americas IS to deliver on the scoped Portfolio Services, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the solution delivery areas and overall IS performance.
  • Plan and deliver within the budget for Portfolio Services, establishing management controls (including effective financial forecasting) that ensure delivery of key objectives while maintaining quality. Drive to a “no surprises” culture.
  • Establish standard vendor management processes and reporting for Americas IS, operating review processes in conjunction with the solution delivery areas.
  • Support the Americas IS senior leaders in administering customer satisfaction assessments and implementing improvement plans that positively impact the satisfaction levels of our internal business partners.
  • Manage the team of senior strategic program managers who support cross-functional strategic programs delivered by Americas IS, including development of standard processes and reporting delivered to the organization by this function.
  • Organization: Implement an effective team structure that optimizes the delivery capability and output of the Portfolio Services team, operating the team as a shared service organization capable of running the scoped processes in a standard and efficient way on behalf of the Americas IS team.
  • Operate the Portfolio Services team, ensuring business continuity throughout the organization transformation by targeting appropriate competencies and knowledge transfer to mitigate risk in the assigned areas.
  • Develop and implement a resourcing strategy that delivers the most cost effective and appropriate mix of internal and external resources, optimizing the Portfolio Services team to deliver the cross-functional services in scope as efficiently as possible.
  • Recruit, motivate and develop a customer-focused team; establish a culture that embraces responsibility and accountability, values teamwork, encourages diversity and delivers performance-based outcomes.
  • Solutions: Act as a thought leader in the area of portfolio management; provide portfolio management services and reporting that assist delivery teams to drive speed of deployments and cost effectiveness of Americas IS.
  • Collaborate with the ABB Group IS and Global Electrification IS Operational Effectiveness organizations to understand and ensure overall organization compliance with global processes and reporting standards around the relevant defined services (e.g., project reporting).
  • Manage the tools developed to deliver on the defined portfolio services, providing “product management” direction to evolve the tools in support of efficient internal operational processes.
  • Develop and operate a centralized process to evaluate customer feedback received during quarterly surveys, including the identification, prioritization, management and delivery of targeted improvement activities.
  • Develop and administer standard communication protocols including notification processes, standard email and presentation templates and any associated operating cadence around regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Define and manage to the Service Level Agreement(s) for all deployed services.
  • Deliver and support initiatives that are aligned and agreed at a group level.
  • Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness: Establish and implement a cost-effective management structure within your respective solution delivery area.
  • Assess the existing processes, tools and reporting for the designated services, enhancing or revising existing services to support the Americas IS transformation objectives and drive efficiencies.
  • Establish and enforce appropriate IS policies, processes, and procedures, aligning with industry best practices where possible.
  • Leverage Group IS and the Global Business Services (GBS) where possible to improve service and reduce costs, using shared services to the fullest extent possible without compromising high quality delivery or cost reduction targets.
  • Ensure effective engagement between local, Group IS and GBS teams for all relevant activities and, where required, monitor adherence to established service levels, ensuring that agreed time, budget and quality specifications are met.
  • Develop and manage internal programs that target continuous improvement of customer satisfaction levels for internal business partners.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with Americas IS senior leaders, developing a detailed understanding of the issues, challenges and opportunities that can be addressed by the Portfolio Services team with a centralized solution.
  • Manage relationships with senior stakeholders (internal to IS or within the business), driving effective communications for solution delivery or issues and managing expectations to ensure customer satisfaction goals are achieved.
  • People Leadership and Development: Guide, motivate and develop direct and indirect subordinates within HR policies, for the benefit of both ABB and the employee.
  • Lead by example in the areas of inclusive behaviors and diversity.
  • Build an environment of trust and collaboration within Electrification (EL) IS, the Global IS organization, GBS and our external suppliers, modeling our core values always.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction, creating goals and standards of performance according to established HR policies, guidelines and processes.
  • Develop a detailed plan to facilitate cross-training of the Portfolio Services team, implementing a sustainable model that ensures continuous knowledge exchange and competency development and allows the team to operate with a high degree of efficiency.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of IS experience in the respective IS service areas as well as 8+ years of supervisory experience OR High school diploma and 20+ years of IS experience in the respective IS service areas and 10+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience designing, deploying, managing and institutionalizing portfolio management processes and tools that enable strategic project portfolio prioritization and selection as well as establishment and monitoring of critical delivery Key Performance Indicators​ (KPIs), experience performing this in a global capacity a plus.
  • Senior IS leadership experience, including demonstrated examples of management through influence and collaboration in complex, multi-site global environments.
  • Significant experience successfully leading geographically dispersed and diverse teams, building a culture of responsibility and accountability.
  • Proven performance as an information technology leader in a complex, global organization, where IS transformation efforts were successfully delivered which drove significant business value as well as improved IS performance, reliability, security and cost effectiveness.
  • A senior leader who has repeatedly implemented processes and tools that support efficient and effective IS delivery with a focus on centralized services operated on behalf of an IS organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a broad view of his/her position and take initiative to communicate, interact and cooperate with others.
  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial; hands on leader with a “can do” attitude who drives the same within his/her team.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills that have been leveraged to drive change and successfully deliver significant IS programs or transformations. Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, technical and non-technical audiences, to convey IS information and processes in a clear and concise fashion.
  • Strong experience in project planning and execution and operation of centralized IS services.
  • A delivery focused leader who has demonstrated the ability to establish centralized IS services, collaborate across global teams, and drive action through influence to impact global processes and tools.
  • Previous experience establishing internal continuous improvement activities to drive efficiencies, manage/reduce costs, and improve service.
  • Experience leveraging shared IS services, internal or external, to drive cost effective service delivery.
  • Solid experience as a change leader, preferably with experience instituting new, global processes and tools.
  • Proven ability working in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (regional and global travel) and 50+% if not located in a designated core site.
