This role reports to Production Supervisor and is located in Mebane, North Carolina. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible to plan, conduct and coordinate engineering development activities. Provide manufacturing engineering support to engineering department and customers.

Your responsibilities

  • Achieve highest safety levels in the plant.
  • Build plant lean culture by influencing, collaborating and communicating with all levels of employees.
  • Mentor, train and motivate new team members through training initiatives.
  • Occasionally coordinate operation activities to ensure production schedules and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate and provide technical, quality and production leadership to assigned Cells / Teams.
  • Assist leaders with overall Product Group decision making in areas of process improvement.
  • Work with system and product development teams to develop/create technical documents.
  • Value stream mapping for product lines and eliminate process waste.
  • Lead project tracking and reviews to implement improvements.
  • Tooling & fixture design for assembly & test, write specification for outsourcing tooling/fixture.
  • Implement and execute 5S programs, Kaizen events, Root cause analysis.
  • Direct the activities of the hourly team within the cell to meet identified goals.
  • Assist group leader in coaching employees.
  • Practice sound human relations and communications skills to motivate the assigned workforce.
  • Develop/implement creative solutions to customer impact prioritized product design improvements.
  • Track and resolve prioritized product design quality and cost out projects in a timely manner.
  • Develop proactive, product quality improvements and resolve existing quality issues.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Reliability (DFR) tools.
  • Be responsible for Manufacturing (MFG) labor cost estimates.
  • Facility Transformations.
  • New Product Implementation (NPI)
  • Localization projects.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM field from ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in lean manufacturing or operations.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
  • Ability to work within and/or leading cross functional teams and influence decisions.
  • Fast learning/aptitude in manufacturing software and hardware tools CAD/ProE/Eplan/Windchill/SAP, etc.
  • Knowledge of value stream mapping, one-piece flow, Kaizen, Gemba, 5S and other lean tools. Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-oriented mindset.
  • Prior experience with CNC programming, CNC punch presses, Brake presses, Vertical Mills.
  • Prior experience with Sheet Metal fabrication, assembly, welding, painting.
  • Prior experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills.
  • Able to present technical information.
  • Should have interest in learning new things and not afraid to challenge the status quo.
