Neuro-Trauma Intensive Care Unit at HCA Mission Health


This position is currently offering a sign-on bonus!


$5,000 sign-on bonus paid all in first paycheck with a 2-year commitment to Mission Health System.

Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC is a Level 2 Trauma Center that serves as the only trauma center in the 18 counties of Western North Carolina. Mission Hospital has been designated by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, which features collaborative multi-disciplinary teams consisting of neuro hospitalists, neurovascular hospitalists, nurse practitioners, hospital registered nurses, and techs – working together to serve this high-acuity patient population with compassionate care.


Neuro-Trauma ICU unit profile:

  • 20 bed unit
  • Patient Population: A variety of patients to include neuro patients as well as trauma patients, stroke patients, Traumatic Brain Injuries, elective craniotomies, those coming from surgery performed by Trauma surgeons, overflow from MSICU, etc.
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2
  • Collaborative relationship in multidisciplinary rounds with providers
  • Culture of teamwork – team members care for patients and for each other like family

Registered Nurse at Mission Health:

Role Summary: Provides leadership which facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care for the comfort and well-being of patients. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family. Implements medically prescribed interventions.


Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Effective 3/1/18 Bachelor of Science in Nursing OR enroll in a BSN or advanced degree program within 6 months AND obtain a BSN within 4 years of hire date into RN position. Previous signed BSN commitment letter OR grandfathering will be accepted between departments and Mission Health entities. Exemptions may be approved with CNO System Council approval.


Required License or Certifications: Must have and maintain current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse License Compact) license may apply, licensee should confirm with NCBON Certificate: BLS Healthcare Provider.


Preferred License or Certifications: National Certification in area of specialty.


Required Experience: One-year hospital nursing experience  — this is the base experience required for the RN role at Mission Health; please see Preferred Experience for department-specific criteria.


Preferred Experience:  At least 2 years of nursing experience in an ICU is highly preferred; may also consider those with experience in Trauma Care units, Neuro units, some stepdown or progressive care experience depending on staffing mix at the time.
