Work Hours/Shift 

Full Time, Exempt

You Will be Responsible for:

• Directs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

• Demonstrates knowledge of standards of care for departments under span of control. 

• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.

• Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Director of Nursing and administrative team. 

• Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed. 

• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

• Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. 

• Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. 

• Maintains performance improvement activities for departments.

• Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies.

• Provides guidance for staff education on performance improvement. Ability to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for unit staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs.

• Performs specific activities with department clinical leads (interviewing, hiring, counseling and firing).

• Overcomes obstacles and generates solutions

• Identifies problems and demonstrates ability to problem solve.

• Results will be indicated by dashboard highlighting outcomes and up-to-date plan on how to achieve those outcomes.

• Must understand and demonstrate mission, values and goals of organization.

• Results will be indicated by compliance with corporate measures, and progress ensured with core measures and regulatory readiness of responsible operations.

Qualifications

What You Will Need: 

  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field
  • Graduate from accredited school of nursing
  • Five or more years of previous experience in all aspects of acute care nursing and a minimum of two years of experience in a similar role
  • Current North Carolina Registered Nurse Licensure or Licensure Eligible
  • American Heart Association BLS certification
  • NCC certification in a minimum of one clinical area
  • Nurse Executive-Board Certified (NE-BC) or Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified

Job Summary

Responsible for direction of patient care in Med/Surg, ICU/PCU, & float pool management. Works closely with the department clinical leads and lead administrative supervisor for oversight of staff members in the clinical units. Consult with staff, physicians, VP Clinical Services/CNO on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintain performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Responsible for formulating budgets in all reporting departments. Works closely with the clinical educators to ensure all possible opportunities for staff education are met.
